Na een rit in Charlie van een uur of 4 zijn we aangekomen in Wellington, ook wel bekend als Windy Welly. En niet voor niets. Het is hier ontzettend winderig, maar we hebben wel het geluk dat we kunnen genieten van een lekker zonnetje.

Eerst gingen we op zoek naar de enige camping hier. Het is eigenlijk meer een parkeerplaats met voorzieningen. Niks bijzonders maar de locatie is perfect. Aan de haven (20 meter vanaf waar we woensdag de ferry op gaan) en in het centrum.

Na een wandeling door de stad en wat koffie te hebben gedronken liepen we langs het water terug op zoek naar een plekje om te eten. De faciliteiten op de parkeerplaats bestaan namelijk uit slechts douches en wc’s.

Uiteindelijk kozen we voor Mac’s Brew bar. Hier hebben we in Auckland ook gegeten maar overal hebben ze hun eigen kaart. Na een overweldigend en heerlijk voorgerecht, vergezeld met een cocktail en zelf gebrouwen chocolade biertje, vielen de mosselen als hoofdgerecht flink tegen. Helaas! Want Wellington staat bekend om de vis.

Terug gewandeld langs het water naar Charlie en vanaf daar nog genoten van het mooie uitzicht. We kunnen de ferry zien vertrekken en in de avond heb je een prachtig uitzicht op alle huizen die op de bergen aan het water zijn gebouwd.

Morgen hebben we een hele dag in Wellington. Ze verwachten iets minder zon, maar gelukkig ook minder wind.

After a drive in Charlie of about 4 hours, we arrived in Wellington, also known as Windy Welly. And not without reason. It's incredibly windy here, but we're lucky enough to enjoy some lovely sunshine.

First we went looking for the only campground here. It's actually more of a parking lot with facilities. Nothing special, but the location is perfect. Right by the harbor (20 meters from where we'll catch the ferry on Wednesday) and in the city center.

After a walk through the city and some coffee, we walked back along the water looking for a place to eat. The facilities at the parking lot consist of only showers and toilets.

In the end we chose Mac's Brew Bar. We've eaten here in Auckland too, but everywhere has their own menu. After an overwhelming and delicious appetizer, accompanied by a cocktail and home-brewed chocolate beer, the mussels as a main course were a real disappointment. Unfortunate! Because Wellington is known for its fish.

We walked back along the water to Charlie and from there we enjoyed the beautiful view. We could see the ferry depart and in the evening you have a stunning view of all the houses built on the mountains along the waterfront.

Tomorrow we have a full day in Wellington. They're expecting a bit less sun, but fortunately also less wind.
